Experts Dig in with Doggies for Dementia with Kathryn Harrison, Author & Alzheimer’s Advocate
Welcome to another wonderful episode of Experts Dig in with Doggies for Dementia with our special guest author, illustrator, artist, and daughter to a mother with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. A few years ago around the time, Just See Me-Sacred stories from the Other Side of Dementia was published, I connected with Kathryn Harrison on social media. I fell in love with her book, Weeds in Nana’s Garden. We both have a calling to spread awareness and educate the world about Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia. When someone we love is impacted by dementia, we learn in short form that there is no cure and we are going to watch as things worsen feeling overwhelmingly powerless.
Kathryn Harrison shares the inspiration of her beautiful books, and how her love of art helped her to heal. You might be surprised by the turns in her heartwarming story. I sure did! Kathryn’s books are Weeds in Nana’s Garden and Smile for Grandpa, which is a collaboration with Jaclyn Guenette. Links are below, but guess what? You can get FREE copies! They’re doing this just for Experts Dig in with Doggies for Dementia supporters.

Why A Book about Dementia for Children?
As the numbers grow, more and more people will be diagnosed with various forms of dementia. Families are often called upon to become physical and emotional carers and most times they have no experience with this. Children will have questions, and watching someone they love change is traumatic. Allowing them to express their feelings, worries and questions are important. Knowing how to respond to them in a compassionate, kind, and loving way is exceptionally important. These are just a few of the reasons I love Kathryn’s books.
This is a beautiful episode, and we would love to hear your comments and questions. Kathryn and I (Carmen Davailus) are two women on a mission to raise awareness for dementia. I am the founder of Doggies for Dementia Foundation, a nonprofit organization with a Board of Directors now called Executive Growth Team.
While we have those who support our mission, do you know that Kathryn and I respond to correspondence personally? We post our social media and write blogs and so on. I personally love talking with people around the world who have so much to share about their experiences as caregivers, how they support caregivers, and those who are also on a mission to make the world a more compassionate, kind, and loving place for those impacted by this challenging disease.
