It is with great sadness that we tell you of the passing of Bob Shirk. He and his family are one of our Doggies for Dementia’s families. We shared a wonderful morning getting to know them and witnessing Bob’s first glimpse of his newest granddaughter Bonnie. Bob’s family are a joy, and we enjoyed meeting them all.
Please join us in our prayers and loving thoughts for this family during this difficult time.
Bob was diagnosed with dementia when his daughter Carlie was only 12. Her touching story about her experiences with her father are not to be missed.
A Message from Carmen Davailus, President and Founder of Doggies for Dementia Foundation.
I met Carlie and her husband Travis at a gathering to alert the state government of the ongoing tragedies for residents of long term care communities as a result of the Covid-19 lockdown. I wanted to hear and report on their stories. We continued to connect on social media. I was honored to hear from her and photograph her father’s first time meeting baby Bonnie. It might seem like our nonprofit organization is all about giving, but we also gain so much by meeting families, hearing their stories and by being a part of the experience.
We, at Doggies for Dementia Foundation know photography and sharing of one’s story is a sensitive and intimate experience. We are so thankful they shared their stories in order to help others along the Dementia journey. We honor Bob and his family today and always.
