Experts Dig in with Doggies for Dementia and Guest Mike Plaskey- Founder and Vice President of TeamSuzy.org
We love hearing how one triumphs over exceedingly challenging situations. No one can argue how caring for someone you love as they decline from Alzheimer’s Disease or other forms of Dementia is exceedingly challenging. Perhaps that is an understatement. Mike Plaskey cared for his wife of 32 years. Suzy was a teacher and loved by her students. She loved to attend their children’s activities swimming. She loved their dog Dusty.
Today’s Experts Dig in with Doggies for Dementia is with guest Mike Plaskey, Co-Founder and Vice-President of TeamSuzy.org.
Get ready for an inspirational story of a husband who became a caregiver for his wife with early onset Alzheimer’s Disease. Suzy was diagnosed at age 54 and they were married 32 years at the time of her passing.
During the years he cared for his wife Suzy, he couldn’t help but understand the importance of self-care, getting help and how to ask for help.
Family Caregivers:
- When do you ask for help?
- Who should you ask?
- How should you ask?
- How will you pay for it?
- In what ways can people help you?
Mike and his team have created a roadmap answering these all important questions and more. Their resources are invaluable to even the most experienced caregivers. Most of us do not become caregivers with a lot of experience in how to go about caring for someone we love and how to take care of ourselves.
TeamSuzy.org provides grants for family caregivers in order to help them with the huge financial burden of dementia and is also partnering with Michigan Humane Society to fund adoption of pets for those with dementia. What beautiful missions! Tune in for this inspirational and informational episodes.
