Doggies for Dementia and the Proactive Caregiver
What Happens When Caregivers See a Need or Void?
They become proactive! Today we follow along the journey of our special guest, Jessica Lizel Cannon. Jessica cares for her mother who has vascular dementia and Frontotemporal dementia behavioral variance with symptoms beginning in her 40s. Jessica has since written a book, “The Proactive Journey” and has a podcast. She wants to help other families with hopes to create a smooth journey for them. We talk about her journey as a caregiver to her mother, whose symptoms began in her forties, their struggles with diagnosis and care and then what she did about it. You’ll be inspired!!
From Jessica:
“Most importantly, I stepped into my own shoes, standing firm, and proudly call myself an author. Researching to help Mom was my distraction from the ugly truth and an obsession for becoming Proactive rather than reactive. Now it has become my mission to create a cultural shift.
You might have seen some of my other posts on IG but in case you haven’t, this is what I am over the moon about.
The reality of Dementia and the new findings that are still being discovered is something I want to bring awareness towards. Mom is declining faster now than in previous years but WE can prevent this from happening to us.
Thank you all for your support by subscribing to my website, listening and watching the podcast videos on YouTube. The book is for sale right now on www.jessicalizelcannon.com/books and will soon be available in stores too. Get your copy today or pick one up for a fellow caregiver or both.”

You’ll want to take a look at www.JessicaLizelCannon.com and Jessica’s new book, The Proactive Caregiver: Stop Reacting to Life, Start Living Proactively. Jessica Lizel Cannon Specializes in educating others on how to be a Proactive Caregiver by targeting the caregiver, rather than the care recipient. After numerous challenges with diagnosis and educating others, family and medical professionals, about FTD-bv, she decided to document her journey so others going through a similar journey might avoid the problems she encountered. I love her inspiration and dedication, and I believe you will too.
